SECOORA is pleased to announce that two new members joined our organization – the Ocean Tracking Network and Coastal Studies Institute. SECOORA members influence and guide all our endeavors to help make us a trusted source for coastal ocean information in the southeast.
We are excited to add the expertise of these two organizations to SECOORA.
Ocean Tracking Network
The Ocean Tracking Network (OTN) is a global aquatic research, data management and partnership platform headquartered at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Their mission is to inform the sustainable management of aquatic animals by providing knowledge on their movements, habitats and survival in the face of changing global environments. OTN is tracking more than 150 keystone, commercially important and endangered species including marine mammals, sea turtles, squid, snow crab, lobster, and fishes like sharks, sturgeon, eels, tuna, salmonids and cod.
“Ocean Tracking Network is excited to join SECOORA. We are already working together to host aquatic animal tagging data for the FACT Network. Becoming a SECOORA member furthers our partnership and mutual mission to invest in data sharing.”
Brendal Townsend, Senior Program Manager, Ocean Tracking Network
Coastal Studies Institute
The Coastal Studies Institute (CSI), an inter-institutional East Carolina University marine facility on North Carolina’s Outer Banks undertakes innovative research, education and engagement. CSI’s mission is to conduct research, offer undergraduate and graduate educational opportunities, provide community outreach programs, and enhance communication among those concerned with the unique history, culture, and environment of the maritime counties of North Carolina.
“SECOORA and CSI both believe in supporting sound science and observations for decision makers to make the right choice. CSI is excited to engage with SECOORA and be involved in the coastal ocean observing that meets both scientific and stakeholder needs.”
Reide Corbett, Program Head, Coastal Processes, CSI.
